So I'm back to the data center world from a two-week holiday in Wales and Cornwall (highly recommend, if you're looking for somewhere awesome to go on vacation where there's no language barrier, people are incredibly nice and helpful, and drinking is cheap)...

FountainIt looks like a lot has gone on the past couple weeks, but I am most disturbed by the news that HP is cutting 9000 IT jobs in its data centers.  What are all those sys-admins going to do?  Good news for the sales industry though, because according to the article at ComputerWorld that's what HP is making room for... 6000 new positions involving expertise in sales, IT architecture, and service delivery.

It's because of amazing advances in technology that this is happening.  HP's advances in automation and consolidation in their data centers have been very impressive - progress like they've made is great, but it's always sad to hear about job cuts.

This switch on HP's part shows a different focus on what skills people will need to get data center jobs in the future as everything becomes more streamlined.
