A colo is a type of data center which multiple customers use shared building infrastructure, while owning and maintaining their own network, server, and storage equipment. Customers typically own, manage and implement server and network equipment themselves, while the colo is responsible for building maintenance, including: power distribution, cooling, security, etc. This shared model drives down costs and maximizes opportunities to make use of a data center infrastructure.
