Risk Mitigation and You
In today’s world of modern infrastructure and IT management, data centers have become an integral part of day to day life, whether we know it or not. Our information and data is being stored on servers more and more each day. The Cloud, while considered a mystery, is still contained in racks in a data center somewhere. With all of that data in one location it’s easy to lose track of the little things that can cause down time.
Risk Mitigation. It’s a topic that can send chills up the spine of even the most stalwart of IT professionals. Or it might induce a near frantic retelling of personal triumph and horrifying loss. Risk is everywhere in the data center, starting with the move in and ending with the move out. Data Center Migrations are inherently risky endeavors; however, there are several things you can do to mitigate much of that risk. A fair start is knowing that migrations are not for the faint of heart. Data Center Migrations don’t have to be hard. They just have to be carefully planned and flawlessly executed. That’s where we come in! But, what about the time in between moves? Well there are a host of other things to concern yourself with; risk is associated with the cooling, the power, the human factor and more. Even geography plays a role when deciding on a data center location. Seismic activity, threat of flood, incidence of tornadoes, hurricane activity and snow or wildfires can all play havoc on uptime and consistent results.
But that’s not all that’s out there; grid maturity, on-site power requirements, multi-grid access, carrier presence and fiber backbone and proximity all play key roles as well. They also all tie in to mitigating the risks inherent with infrastructure. Everything, down to choosing the right UPS can be used to reduce the chances for failure and increase uptime efficiency. Silverback is just as concerned with mitigating risk for our clients, by using technically trained staff and specialized tools, our team reduces the chances of catastrophe. We’ve partnered up with some big names in the networking and IT industries along with Motivated to Influence DATA CENTER San Francisco 2014 to bring you the Mitigating Risk panel at the conference. Check out more here: Silverback Panel Discussion.
