What is Pledge Manager?
What is Pledge Manager? Well I’m glad you asked! Pledge Manager is a new third party program designed with the crowdfunding creator in mind. Anyone that has run a Kickstarter can tell you that Fulfillment is important, perhaps more so than getting all of those backing funds. Fulfillment means getting your rewards to backers and communicating with them as you complete this process. Like every other part of the journey it requires planning and budgeting. The planning part is where third party vendors such as BackerKit or Pledge Manager come into play. Were you to start your own crowdfunded project, and succeed in making your goal, most websites will give you the tools you need to finish your end of the deal with your backers. However, the information gathered is usually very basic, taking into account only the backer’s name, address and phone number. There may be other fields to fill in, but for the most part this is all that’s compiled into a CSV file. Now for some out there, that would be perfectly fine and with a few Excel shortcuts that information would turn into usable data.
But, what happens when your crowdfunded project kicks up into the thousands, or maybe you have alternate rewards, perks and extras that people can add. Where do you turn when that CSV file just won’t cut it? Well you turn to the people at Pledge Manager. Currently in a beta format, several Kickstarters have already begun using Pledge Manager as a way to communicate with their backers easily and without slogging through Kickstarter’s most basic pledge manager.
Having already seen mainstream use in more than one miniature war game crowdfunding such as Reaper’s Bones II Kickstarter, Pledge Manager has allowed backers to easily identify the packs and rewards they wanted as well as handling the transactions of last minute purchases. While Pledge Manager does have some competition in the form of BackerKit, there is the commission to think about as well. BackerKit will require a crowdfunded project manager to forfeit 1% of the funds crowdsourced. Say that fantastic idea of yours managed to get a million dollars in backing; that means you’re out $100,000 before you even start putting together the pieces. Pledge Manager is looking better and better!
So how does it work? When you decide to go through Pledge Manager, they’ll need some of the more pertinent information about your project. But, what you get back is a fully integrated solution to manage your pledges and fulfill your end of the crowdfunding cycle. A website will be created using Pledge Manager’s special formulae and your crowdfunded project. Customers will be directed there to fill in their information and select any bonuses or perks you may have thought to offer. Taking a chance to speak with a few who’ve ended up using Pledge Manager, experiences have been vastly positive on both the creator and the backer side of things. At the end of the day, it appears as though Pledge Manager was built by backers for backers. Boasting over 2 million backers a month using their service already, Pledge Manager is poised to explode onto the Kickstarter scene with its own unique brand of services.
